Electromechanical properties of Na 0.5 Bi 0.5 TiO 3 -SrTiO 3 -PbTiO 3 solid solutions

Abstract Thorough studies of electric field-induced strain are presented in 0.4Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-(0.6-x)SrTiO3-xPbTiO3 (NBT-ST-PT) ternary solid solutions. The increase of concentration of lead x induces crossover from relaxor to ferroelectric. Strain in a relaxor state can be described by electrostrictive behavior. The electrostrictive coefficients correspond to other well-known relaxor ferroelectrics. The concentration region with a stable ferroelectric phase revealed that the polarization dependence of strain does not exhibit nonlinearity, although they are inherent to the electric field dependence of strain. On the existence of a pyrochlore-type phase in the system Bi2O3–TiO2

The existence of a bismuth titanate in the range between Bi 2 Ti 4 O 11 (Bi 2 O 3 . 4 TiO 2 ) and Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 (2 Bi 2 O 3 . 3 TiO 2 ) has been investigated by X-ray diffraction of samples prepared by solid state reactions. For reaction temperatures above 1100 °C and a starting composition Bi 2 O 3 . 2 TiO 2 there appeared additional lines which could be attributed to a cubic face-centred cell with a = 10.354 A. A multiphase Rietveld analysis based on X-ray powder diffraction data confirmed the structural model of a pyrochlore for this compound. Thermo-Optical Investigation of Sodium-Bismuth Titanate Single Crystal and PLZT Ceramics

Thermal lensing in relaxor type ferroelectrics as a function of temperature has been investigated by using pulse/probe method. Enhanced thermo-optical (TO) properties had been observed in 3d elements (Cu, Co) doped PLZT ceramics and in sodium-bismuth titanate single crystals near phase transitions (PT). Comparison of TO signals for several doped PLZT materials reveals that 0.5 wt.% Cu doping is responsible for improved thermal lensing parameters interpreted by optimal light absorption, heat transfer and possible PT adjustment. Synthesis and optical characterization of Er-doped bismuth titanate nanoparticles grown by sol-gel hydrothermal method

Abstract The Er 3+ -doped bismuth titanate (Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 , BIT) nanoparticles were synthesized by a combined sol–gel and hydrothermal method under a partial oxygen pressure of 30 bar. The composition and morphology were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman scattering. They showed pure and homogeneous spherical BIT nanoparticles with a size below the 30 nm. The incorporation of Er ions showed a strong decrease in the lattice parameters, as well as averaged particle size.
